October 2022: Month of great innovation and birth

The past month indeed made the headlines for a number of reasons.

Firstly, we celebrated our 40th anniversary. SABPP was formed around the 18th of October 1982 and on the 18th of October 2022 over 120 stakeholders gathered to celebrate this milestone in Sandton, Johannesburg. It was great to see how far we had come from those humble beginnings in 1982. It was also pleasing to note that our mission is still on track despite the changing political, social and economic climates. Finally, it was also an opportunity to look ahead and gaze upon the next 40 years remaining relevant.

The theme of the year remains

‘CONTRIBUTING TO THE SUSTAINABILITY OF ORGANISATIONS THROUGH HINDSIGHT, INSIGHT, FORESIGHT AND OVERSIGHT ENSURING HR CREDIBILITY FOR FORTY YEARS AND BEYOND’

Secondly, in the spirit of the 40th anniversary the following launches/updates were made:

  1. Membership fees for 2022

The operational expenses were well managed in 2021 and 2022 prompting management to recommend a zero percent membership fee adjustment for 2023. This is significant as the economic climate is still a challenge to our members and this small gesture will go a long way is supporting our members. We are confident that because of our improved member value we will be able to increase the new members in 2023 without increasing the fees.

  • Buffett Membership categories launched

This ground-breaking initiative was launched to bring convenience to our members. Instead of paying every time there is renewal, event or conference, this initiative now means members can pay once a highly discounted fee and be able to get a lot of services for free for the whole year. Therefore, members and organisations can now concentrate on their core business noting that all else is catered for including compliance to CPD. There is also a great saving to members of up to R15 000 or 67% on the total fees they pay to the Board.

Further details about this initiative are available on the next article in this edition and also on the SABPP website.

  • Vacancy portal for HR jobs launched

The SABPP website is now turning to be a one stop shop for the HR professionals and other stakeholder. During the month of October, we launched a vacancy portal that posts all relevant HR positions. Please visit the page daily and apply for your next career job. Employers are encouraged to post their job openings here and they can post permanent jobs, contract jobs and even internships for free.
